Our School
Our building opened for the first time in 1912 as Danemark County School. This was the first public elementary school in Winchester. The land, the building and equipment cost a grand total of £5,500. Several changes later, in 1965, it became St. Bede Church of England (Controlled) Primary School upon the amalgamation of the two parish schools of Holy Trinity and St Bartholomew's.

The flooded school in 2000
Today we cater for up to 315 primary pupils. We serve a diverse neighbourhood bringing children together from a rich variety of backgrounds.
Within a framework of Christian principles, we aim to provide our pupils with the intellectual and life skills that will equip them for the exciting world of the 21st century.
In December 2000 the school was flooded, and we moved to a temporary home on Bereweeke Road for two years.

The new school entrance
In the spring of 2003 we returned to a completely refurbished and expanded (and flood-proofed!) school. The building now combines the character of the original buildings with all the facilities of a modern, well-equipped educational establishment.
St Bede is particularly well placed to take advantage of the exceptionally rich local environment, and we give the children opportunities to learn from the history, location, wild life, community and industry on their doorstep.
The governors, staff, children and parents of St Bede have a strong sense of community, and all play their parts in the continuing development and improvement of the school, for the benefit of all our children.
